Spy Hunter Returns

Spy Hunter Returns

The classic arcade game Spy Hunter is reborn as a modern, 3D racing/shooting game for Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita.

A few arguments towards the game industry point out that video games are trying to mimic movies.  A possible connection could exist with military shooters mimicking 1980s action films, such as Call of Duty games being similar to Rambo.  Yet another familiar icon in action movies is the spy with a license to kill, James Bond, and there isn't a lot of games where players can be spies, right?  Well there was one in the past that is getting remade.  You are a spy that shoots terrorists and other bad people with high-caliber weapons.  Except in Spy Hunter, you had a cool car to drive.

Spy Hunter has a premise that just screams classic, 1980s action films.  You play as an agent that drives the awesome G-6155 interceptor supercar.  A vehicle that can transform from a sexy car to a boat or monster truck.  Your task is to blast down terrorists driving down the highway with numerous weapons hidden in the vehicle, while avoiding the civilians driving around the same street.

The new Spy Hunter will also get some micromanagement tweaks and modern updates.  Players can now customize their weapon layout in between missions, along with using high tech gadgets that any double-O agent would approve of.  One gadget is a spy drone, which will give details to the player on how to attack terrorist bases.

I have some vague memories of the original Spy Hunter on the Commodore 64, but I remember it being a pretty good racing game.  I imagine this game would do well in this generation considering it has a silly premise like any other modern shooter on the market.  Plus now you got a game that lets you shoot bad guys while driving a sweet car.  How many Call of Duty or Battlefield games let you do this?
