YouTube is looking to up their programming efforts internationally with a new push that will include several new channels in Europe.
YouTube, the worlds most popular video-sharing site has announced that it is adding 50 channels on top of the 100 it has introduced in the past year. This will also include country specific channels for France, Germany and the UK.
Robert Kyncl, head of YouTube's Global Content had this to say:
"From local cuisine, health and wellness, from parenting to sports, music, comedy, news and animation, this new lineup of original channels will have something for everyone"
From October last year, Google has invested $100 million in original programming, and YouTube are saying that they are currently harvesting the fruits of that investment.
The video sharing giant has said that it averages more than 1 million views per week from the top 25 contributors to the site, and that 800,000 people are watching 4 billion hours of video up from 3 billion earlier in the year.
The company is set to invest a cool $200 million into marketing and production costs to ensure the people get the content they want to see, relevant to their interests.
Robert Kyncl told The Times.
"I believe that every interest will, at some point, have a channel serving that interest. People are building channels and creating audiences, which is something they could not do before in such numbers"
This expansion by YouTube comes as competition from other video platforms such as Amazon, Netflix and Hulu are all stepping up their own original programming to attract new viewers and advertisers.
It is looking like YouTube have big things in their future, and who can blame them. I would rather watch some YouTube videos than TV these days. Are you excited for these dedicated channels? Let us know below.
