Resogun Review – PS4 Exclusive

Resogun Review PS4
If their is one genre the indie studio Housemarque knows how to rock, it is arcade shooters. Super Stardust HD released on the launch of the Playstation 3, and now the developers have released their new game Resogun on the launch of the Playstation 4. Although this may look like a standard Defender clone, don't take this ambitious title so lightly: Resogun may just be the best reason to pick up a brand new Playstation 4. You truly can't understand the allure of this game until you grab a Dualshock 4 and dive into the experience. What should strike players first is how beautiful Resogun's nyon inspired art design truly is. The dazzling enemy designs along with the atmospheric backgrounds look marvelous, but it is the explosive effects that will truly wow you. The amount of voxels that will erupt on screen is incredible, and brought a unique wonder I expect a child feels after seeing their first firework.  This, along with the catchy soundtrack beating in the background, create an exciting atmosphere that fuels the energized gameplay. Housemarque has a certain knack for creating twin stick, arcade shooters. At face value, Resogun appears to be nothing more then just a new and improved Defender; however, the new mechanics thrown in do change the core experience. Players can pick between 1- 3 ships that represent the standard trend of fast, well rounded, and powerful. These ships are placed in cylinder levels in which players must destroy aliens and transport the remaining survivors to a safe beacon. To accomplish this task you must use your standard upgradeable weapon, bombs, boost, and a super overdrive weapon. The multipliers are built by shooting enemies and are crucial in order to get your name on the online leader boards. A very basic and friendly concept, until you realize the game implements bullet hell mechanics. Resogun is a must have for anyone buying the console at launch. Enemies will fill the screen with bullets, which often tend to circle the map since it's a connected cylinder. To put it simply, that bullet may come back and wipe you out later. It also grants freedom and restriction as players have a endless way to dodge obstructions, but are also limited in focus due to the fact that the bullets comes from two different directions: This makes rescuing civilians tense and challenging. The combined mechanics also adds a lot more depth to the formula and promote replayability. The challenge continues into the boss fights which are truly a spectacle to behold. To see these giant behemoths form in front of you, and then proceed to pursue you with extreme prejudice is menacing. Not one boss fight feels the same, leaving the challenge and intimidation present with every encounter. Overall, all of these elements bounce off each other in order to create a stellar experience, and one of the best games on the Playstation 4. Resogun is another success by the amazing people at Housemarque. It's graphical and artistic design is of pure beauty, but it is the addictive and rewarding…
