Thoughts VS Opinions Battlefield 3 Aftermath Details Cause Speculation as to What we can Expect
Details of Battlefield 3’s new expansion Aftermath show us that we can expect from it four new urban maps, new game modes and new assignments. The real question for me is what further details can we expect to arise in the future?
Set amongst the shattered districts, streets and surrounding villages of a post-earthquake Tehran Battlefield 3™: Aftermath depicts a continuing struggle for supremacy and survival amongst the devastation.
With operational capacity severely compromised the opposing forces must adapt and engage in vertical and horizontal urban combat amongst the dust and rubble with cracks and fissures in the terrain providing unexpected cover and paths to objectives. Additional support comes in the form of heavily modified troop transports and civilian vehicles specially adapted to deliver deadly force to the enemy.
I had a few ideas when I first glanced at this description as to what we can expect.
Maps
The idea is we have a post-earthquake hell hole in which we are expected to fight. This is likely to mean shattered roads, fallen buildings and general chaos laden terrain. I imagine maps will surface looking like a messed up Grand Bazaar or Seine Crossing and will provide plenty of cover be it from torn up structures to ruined vehicles. It will certainly be interesting to see how destroyed a map will get post-earthquake and post-game.
Game Modes
Battlefield seem to be straying towards some of the game modes that we see in the Call of Duty series. Personally I think they might incorporate capture the flag or perhaps an equivalent of sabotage. Game modes are a difficult one to predict because you can’t really gain anything from the theme of the DLC. They added gun game into the last expansion so who knows, we may be seeing something similar or something completely new to the Battlefield series.
New Assignments
Again, much like game modes this is a hard one to predict. The prospect of new weapons is always something you can count on in a new expansion and so new assignments would likely be a way to obtain these. Premium members may also expect some assignments for their exclusive content as we have seen with the carbon fibre dog tags. Personally some assignments for vehicles would be a nice feature, though surely a more fitting expansion for that would be the next DLC, Armoured Kill.
Vehicles
Heavily modified troop transports and specially adapted civilian vehicles? I can’t help but feel deja-vu for the Goliath and the Speeder that we saw in the Northern Strike expansion of Battlefield 2142. Perhaps a Technical pick up truck will emerge as the modified civilian vehicle, perhaps boasting high manoeuvrability and a mounted weapon on the back, as for the modified troop transports I can’t hazard a guess, hopefully something very large and mean looking with a large weapon and plenty of seats.
In and amongst all this speculation of mine I am excited to see what they actually reveal for the Aftermath expansion. I would love to see a Goliath/Speeder situation re-emerge in a present day setting but after all is said and done only time will tell.
