So did your favourite characters make it?
So with the latest entry in the Smash Bros franchise coming out I’ve decided to do a list of Top 10 characters for New Super Smash Bros that I’d love to see in the new game.
First off I’d like to mention that obviously this list only has characters from games that I’ve played and here is a quick list of characters that didn’t make the list.
The Boss (MGS3), Dr. Eggman (Sonic Series), Masked Deedee, Galactia Knight (Kirby series), Sanae Hanekoma (The World Ends with You), Locke Cole & Kefka (Final Fantasy 6), Fawful (Mario and Luigi RPG’s and Henry (Fire Emblem Awakening).
Anyway enough with the ones who didn’t make it so let’s start.
Number 10: Mid Boss (Disgaea DS)
Let’s start this list off with something of an odd choice with the Dark Adonis himself Vyers or Mid Boss as his better known as. Out of all the cast of the original Disgaea game I honestly feel that Mid Boss is the most suitable for Smash Bros.
It’s been shown that he can fly which would make for a good recovery move and his special moves in the game would make good specials. His Final Smash could be his final move in the game where he creates three clones of himself to gang up on his opponent.
The reason I put him at 10 is because Disgaea is a PlayStation exclusive series so it would be hard to get him in the game but then again the same could be said for Metal Gear Solid so how knows.
Number 9: Little Mac (Punch Out, NES, SNES, Wii)
At number 9 comes the ultimate boxing underdog with Little Mac from the Punch Out series and if you take into account all the people Little Mac has to fight against on a regular basis, Smash Bros may be a nice change of pace for the guy.
Little Macs fighting style could easily be transferred to the Smash Bros games since they have sort of already done so since Little Mac is an asset trophy in the previous game.
His Final Smash would obviously have to be a star punch although to make it more interesting they could do something like where Mac gets stars for knocking players out. He then could lose them when he is knocked out. This in turn makes his Final Smash stronger giving Little Mac the risk/reward system from the games.
The only reason Little Mac is this low is because I think that the following characters would have a more interesting move set as they are not restricted like Mac is.
Number 8: The Overlord (Overlord, Wii)
At number 8 comes the Overlord from the sadly underselling Overlord series. I can imagine The Overlord playing either a bit like a heavier version of Captain Olimar by using the minions instead of Pikmin. He’d still be able to do a bit without them with his great axe or if needed he could drain all of their energy to recover.
Alternatively he could just charge into battle with his great axe and use his wide variety of spells for his specials. Then for his Final Smash, he lets the minions go crazy on however they grab.
The Overlord is only number 8 on the list for the same reason as Mid Boss due to the lack of Overlord games on Nintendo consoles as well as the sad fact that the Overlord games aren’t exactly known for selling very well.
Number 7: Big Boss (MGS 3DS edition)
With the previous game letting us play as his clone I think that it’s time to introduce the number 7 spot Big Boss to the fray.
I must however admit that my first choice for this game was going to be his mentor (the original Boss) The fact that Smash Bros doesn’t allow characters to use guns, her signature patriot submachine gun takes here out of the running.
This being said though Big Boss would make a great edition to the series and I could see him playing as a lighter version of Snake since he wouldn’t be able to use the Cipher due since it was not around in his time.
The weapons he’d carry would be a little more old school than Snake too but unlike Snake, Big Boss wouldn’t need to rely as much on weapons since he is a master of CQC so he’d also be a bit faster than Snake too.
My only problem with him is that I can’t really think of what his Final Smash would be expect maybe if he calls in Metal Gear Zeke from Peace Walker. Then again that game was never released on Nintendo consoles so it’s not likely.
Number 6: The Last Kusagari (Red Steel 2, Wii)
At number 6 comes The Last Kusagari from Red Steel 2. He would make a great edition to New Super Smash Bros and would also be a better choice of character then whoever the main character of the disappointingly Red Steel 1.
While yes if he does get in he obviously won’t have his guns because doing so would up the age rating for the game, it doesn’t matter with him because he has a ton of Kusagari powers that he could use as specials like using the Bear move for crowd control for instance and his Final Smash could have him launch someone into the air before knocking them back down and impaling them with his sword.
Sure that move would be impractical but it would look cool and would also be fun to use against say Pikachu. The reason The Last Kusagari is only number 6 however is due to the whole no guns thing because sadly they were part of his offense in Red Steel 2.
Number 5: Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden series)
Before making himself known for being in games with an insane level of gore (and other things) on the Xbox 360, PS3 and the Wii U, Ryu Hayabusa got himself known for the insanely hard Ninja Gaiden games on NES and SNES so why bring him back for New Super Smash Bros.
Ryu Hayabusa’s move could either be using the claws to pile the damage onto one enemy or switching to the scythe to attack multiple people at the same time.
Along with his weapons Ryu would also bring in his speed and finesse that he gained from his training. This means he could run and flip around the area .
As for his Final Smash I’m not exactly sure besides maybe using his Ki abilities but it’s this reason that keeps him from getting any high but it’s his unique fighting style that gets him as high as he is.
Number 4: Soma Cruz (Castlevania DS games)
Since the Castlevania series first started it has always been in one way or form on a Nintendo console yet there has never been a character in Smash Bros but since the last game introduced the series’ first M rated character with Snake, I say let’s finally add a Castlevania character with Soma Cruz from Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow.
Much like Ryu Hayabusa he can use a bunch of different weapons varying from great axes, swords, greatswords among many others so he wouldn’t be limited on what to use. Along with that there’s one other thing that makes Soma an interesting character and by the way Spoilers for Aria of Sorrow coming up.
The thing that makes Soma stand out is that during the events of Aria of Sorrow it’s revealed that he is actually the reincarnation of the series main villain Dracula and that it’s due to this that he can dominate the souls of monsters.
Besides the fact that this basically means the series villain would also technically be in the game it would also mean that the developers would have a ton of abilities to choose from for Soma.
This does however make it a little difficult to choose what his Final Smash would be hence the reason he is not any higher.
Number 3: Shadow the Hedgehog (Sonic series)
Next up at number 3 is Shadow the Hedgehog from the Sonic series and he could honestly make for a better playable character than Sonic himself.
While Sonic in Smash Bros Brawl was a hit and run character the problem with him was that he didn’t do enough damage until you use his Final Smash.
As shown in Sonic Chronicle: The Dark Brotherhood, Shadow can use his chaos control in a variety of ways like forming spheres as well as his usual ability to slow down time but please don’t make that his Final Smash.
Instead he should turn into Super Shadow but instead of Sonics mode where he goes flying across the screen in ridiculous speed. (which by the way is a lot of fun), Shadows version should be changed a little.
Shadow is on this list instead of the rest of the other characters because Shadow is one of the more interesting character in the series since his affinity to the chaos emeralds would make for a most interesting and hopefully entertaining fighting style. When compared to the others it was still close between Shadow and Eggman for the Sonic series entry on this list.
Number 2: Setzer Gabbiani (Final Fantasy 6, GBA and SNES)
Since the Final Fantasy series has always been on Nintendo consoles, why not put in a member from the most recent game. This is where I’d like to introduce Setzer Gabbiani.
Setzer would make for an interesting addition to the Smash Bros cast since the other character in the series he fights with darts, playing cards and even dice (no really) . Of course his gambling ways should obviously be used in his specials.
They could use varieties of gambling equipment like roulette wheels or even his slot machine from Final Fantasy 6 so his play style would definitely make him the character of choice for the player who’s willing to gamble away his chance of winning. His Final Smash would see him bombing the stage with his beloved airship.
The reason I choose Setzer from the rest of the cast of Final Fantasy 6 is because I personally think that he would because he would add something unique to the game. With that said his gambling style would make it hard for Nintendo to keep the series T rating.
Number 1: Travis Touchdown (No More Heroes series, Wii)
And the number 1 entry on this list is also a character that a ton of people want to be added to the series Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes.
While it may be odd to have the Otaku Assassin from the bloody No More Heroes series be my number 1 it’s not as odd of an idea as you may think. The No More Heroes series has a habit of breaking the fourth wall so it would honestly be funny to see him try and hit on the female characters.
This game wouldn’t be the first time that Travis has been censored either because the European edition of No More Heroes had replaced the blood with pixels. Oh and there’s that scene near the end of the game that Travis sped up to get past censors.
Travis’s fighting style is a mixture of using his Beam Katana as well as his wrestling moves . He also has a variety of Beam Katana’s to choose from, the samurai sword version and the dual wielding one, which by the way is the version I’d love to see them use in-game.
Travis’s Final Smash could be a ton of different things from him turning into a freaking tiger or changing into his dark side persona or my personal choice is his mech. The Glastonbury would launch a bunch of attacks at the other players.
So that’s my list of Top 10 characters for New Super Smash Bros and Travis is my number 1 but I have to ask if you were allowed to add a character to the game who would it be or alternatively who would you like to never see in a Smash Bros game?
