American fans have got a lot to get excited about among this weeks Nintendo downloads, including a new 3DS adventure featuring Nintendo’s most famous duo, some old-school platforming fun and the opportunity to become the ruler of 2nd and 3rd Century China.
- Nintendo 3DS fans will soon be able to download Mario and Luigi’s latest adventure from the Nintendo eShop when Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is released this week. Dream Team sees everyone’s favourite plumbers exploring Pi’illo island in the hopes of saving the Pi’illo folk. To aid them in this quest, Mario can now enter the Dream World. This transports Mario to a world of Luigi’s dreams, where Mario is joined by Dreamy Luigi, who can interact with the dream environment to help the player overcome puzzles and battles, for example by changing blocks or rearranging the landscape. Dream Team launches on 11th August on the Nintendo eShop.
- The Nintendo eShop Discount title for the week is escapeVektor, an arcade-style game which sees players trying to escape an evil CPU across over 150 levels. escapeVektor is currently half price on the Nintendo eShop at just $4.99 until 22nd August.
- Wii U fans shouldn’t be feeling left out either, as DuckTales: Remastered lands on the console this week. One of the most iconic and popular platforming titles ever gets updated and reimagined, bringing this classic title to a whole new generation of fans. Take control of Scrooge McDuck as he travels across the globe to claim five legendary treasures with his three nephews. This burst of nostalgic fun will be available to download from the Nintendo eShop for $14.99 from 13th August.
- Also available on the Wii U this week is Spin the Bottle: Bumpie’s Party. Aimed at friends and family, this game just uses the Wii U gamepad to play, providing players with silly challenges and dares to perform (presumably these challenges aren’t typical ‘Spin the Bottle’ style challenges…). Spin the Bottle is available for download right now.
- Also released this week for the Wii U Virtual Console is Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV. This game allows players to become a 2nd century Chinese warlord, aiming to unify the divided country. Originally released for the Super NES in 1995, this strategy game has a surprising level of complexity and intrigue, and successfully achieving the goal of unification was fantastically satisfying, though definitely a challenge! This classic game is now available to download for the Wii U for $7.99.
- Also available this week for Nintendo 3DS are Steamworld Dig, Tangram Style and Smash Bowling 3D. Steamworld Dig is a steampunk-style game that sees players digging for treasure as Rusty the “cowbot”, while Smash Bowling 3D is pretty much exactly what it says on the tin: a bowling game, it does have some interesting levels of customisation to offer. Tangram Style, despite sounding like a parody of YouTube sensation ‘Gangnam Style’, it is actually a puzzle game, offering players more than 600 challenges to be solved, with four different game modes. All these are available to download for the Nintendo 3DS right now.
