Now you can plan your routes and roll your balls of fluffy cuteness to their baskets for free in Furmins Free! I'm still convinced that the amount of "colorful, physics-based puzzle games" on mobile devices is about as abundant as First Person Shooters on consoles.
However Furmins Free does look like a "colorful, physics-based puzzle game" that does well in standing out from the one infuriated bird to rule them all.
Housemarque, the award-winning Finnish games developer responsible for the Angry Birds trilogy just released a free version of Furmins HD with the simple title: Furmins Free.
If Angry Birds was the video game equivalent to the slapstick humor of a Looney Tunes cartoon, then Furmins Free would be the video game equivalent to Dora the Explorer. Your goal in the game is to get the Furmins (balls of fluff with googly eyes and a feather on their head) to a basket somewhere in the level.
There are two stages in the game: In the planning stage, you have to place blocks and bumpers down to let the Furmins roll into the basket; then in the action stage, you watch and trigger bumpers or conveyer belts to get the Furmins in the basket.
Furmins Free will have eight worlds with 108 challenging levels spread across them. Additional features will include a special world previously unlockable only on Facebook; open access to the first world; and the ability to unlock bonus worlds. Finally the method of unlocking a world in Furmins Free will now cost 100 stars.
If the player gets stuck on some puzzles or wants to unlock the worlds faster, they can buy more stars via the in-game store. Furmins Free will also provide Chinese, Korean, and Japanese localizations for the first time. Furmins Free seems to be a cute game for kids, but could provide a decent challenge to adults with the puzzles.
I doubt it will get us excited enough to put flightless birds into slingshots and fling them at green pigs. But it looks like a game that could keep a person entertained if they like to build Rube Goldberg-like devices. Furmins Free is available only on iOS devices.
