On May 30th, fans will be able to play the highly anticipated Mario Kart 8 exclusively for the Wii U, but to whet the appetite a bit Nintendo released some new information regarding Mario Kart 8.

For the first time in HD, Mario Kart 8 features original course design that highlight the game’s new antigravity features. And what the antigravity feature is it allows players to race up or down vertical surfaces.

Users will be able to race other friends, other players, etc. Each match there will be a maximum of 12 players for competitive play. Also, for those that are still old school, you can play locally with up to four players as well.

In Mario Kart 8 there will be a total of 32 courses to play. 16 new courses and 16 remixed courses. The remixed courses are classic courses from Mario Kart games in the past. For example, Toad’s Turnpike from Mario Kart 64 will be in Mario Kart 8 and the twist in this game is that you’ll be able to drive up on the walls in antigravity mode.

Mario Kart 8 will feature many of the characters you are familiar with from past games, but there will be new characters as well. Such as all 7 of Bowser’s minions.

Spin Turbo is new to the Mario Kart series. Spin Turbo will mostly be utilized in the antigravity mode where you can bump into other racers and get a boost while racing upside down and/or on the walls.

Last, but not least, is Mario Kart 8 will feature a couple of new items to play with. The Piranha Plant. What that will do is lunge forward to bite and the player receives a brief boost of speed. The second new item is the Boomerang Flower. After acquiring it, racers can throw a boomerang at opponents to stun them, and its arc allows players to strike multiple opponents with a single toss. The boomerang can be thrown three times, forward or backwards.
