The latest installment in the Mario franchise will take advantage of the Wii U GamePad and introduce a new character.
A Mario game on a new Nintendo console is inevitable; like realism-based weapons or technology crammed into fictional military shooters. This analogy might not hold up well as the current generation of military shooters will incorporate science-fiction elements like ED-209. But it seems Nintendo is finally throwing in some innovation with New Super Mario Bros. U game by letting a fifth player into the game, and bringing in your Mii character.
The original roster of characters from previous Mario games shows up doing their usual routine: Bowser captures Princess Peach, and it is up to Mario, Luigi, and Toad to get her back. The difference here is that now you can play your own Mii character along with the three predefined characters. So your personification could collect the new power-ups like the wall-clinging Flying Squirrel power, or gently float through the air while hanging onto a balloon baby Yoshi.
The number of players allowed in this Mario game depends on whether you got the Wii U GamePad (which should come with each console sold later this year). The game allows four players with a regular controller, but a fifth player could join in with the GamePad to help the other four with a touch of the screen. Create 'boost blocks' from thin air to let other players navigate through tricky stages or get to hidden areas. You can also interact with enemies in different ways using the GamePad. If someone wishes to use the TV set to watch something while you wish to play New Super Mario Bros. U, then you can play the game on the GamePad screen in single-player.
Two game modes will be available in New Super Mario Bros. U aside from story mode. In boost rush mode, two to five players (one using the GamePad) will have to work their way through a series of obstacles in a scrolling screen. Collecting more coins makes the screen move faster. Challenge mode lets players duke it out in familiar Mario gameplay concepts to see who can get the highest score. Each mode will have a replay mode so everyone can see what the other did, and improve their strategy for the next round.
New Super Mario Bros. U will be available on the Nintendo Wii U on November 18th in USA and 30th in Uk, 2012.
