Star Wars the Old Republic Review

Star Wars the Old Republic Review
Star Wars the Old Republic Community Page Star Wars the Old Republic is a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) made by BioWare, the creator of games like Mass Effect, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic and Dragon Age. So going into the game I was cynical as it had to live up to the previous Star Wars games from BioWare. It also had to live up to Mass Effect, which in my opinion is the best game ever made since the start of time. SWTOR (Star Wars the Old Republic) is aiming to create a MMOPG which is both story and character driven. The story is suitably Star Wars and the writing is, as always with BioWare, fantastic. It has a very authentic Star Wars feel to it with the aliens, planets and spaceships to name a few. The only problem is that lightsabers act more like bats or blunt objects but that is probably for the sake of balance. The game has a huge amount of limitations in its free to play model to the point where Player versus Player and Player vs Environment. Equipping high end gear is also limited. Chat is limited, your inventory is limited, character customisation is limited, mounts, quick travel, missions, guilds are all very limited. Worst of all though is the fact that the ability to run (sprint) is limited, you can’t run until you reach a certain level. The game is fun for a while but it does have problems, such as it getting grindy and it doesn't have enough to make it feel unique. That isn't to say the game isn't fun it is fun enough to keep you entertained for long enough that I got to level tweny before getting bored and playing XCOM Enemy Unknown to get ready for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. Your class shows you your favourite Star Wars characters the smuggler for fans of Han Sol,  Jedis for well any number of characters, and bounty hunters for Boba Fett fans. Also each class is either melee or ranged (sometimes a bit of each) and either based around area of effect or picking one guy and focusing on him. There is also a space ship shooter that takes the form of a rail shooter which is a bit of a disappointment. I was expecting a 3D flight sim like game but it was not to be. I guess it was to save money and release it as soon as possible but it is still a bit rubbish. I played as a smuggler because Han Solo is cool and all of Harrison Ford's characters are cool really and the main plot is that you are looking for your spaceship. That is a goal which makes sense for a character like Han Solo but when you get the ship the story just sort of keeps going and I lost interest. I decided that for the sake of this review I will make an alternative character so I…

The game has such a good story which means it is hard to talk about without including spoilers and also there are so many individual stories because there is one story for each class. Overall the story is what kept me playing.

In my opinion the only reason to play this game is for the story, especially if you are playing as a free to play user as PvP and PvE is limited as it is and not good as it is.

The game is very pretty and has a very look that stays true to its Star Wars roots. Clearly they spent a lot of time and money on the looks. The looks is super Star Wars with everything from the lightning of the lightsabers to the inside of the space ships.
