New map and familiar game modes come to the multi-player mode for Halo 4.
I'm starting to think you could see a long running poker game at play here which ends in a dramatic reveal of what is in the other's hand. EA started us off with a tip of what they got with the reveal of grieving (yet perfect killing machine) soldier Preacher in their Medal of Honor trailer. Activision seems to be keeping their cool and pulled two aces for the world to see: A trailer showing off ED-209 in the multi-player version for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and being able to get your Black Ops fix on the go with the PlayStation Vita. Microsoft, not being a new player to the poker game, is trying to get their hand set up for Halo 4 later this year by revealing some new features to the multi-player portion.
Halo 4 will feature a series of new updates to familiar multi-player game modes. There is a 'reimagined' Capture the Flag and Oddball mode. For anyone not familiar: "Capture the Flag" is where players are grouped into teams and try to get the other team's flag and return it to their base. "Oddball" mode is when a ball (usually a skull) is dropped somewhere randomly in the map and the player that holds onto it the longest will be the winner – assuming they could fight off the other players chasing them down. A new mode called "Grifball" is revealed that was created by the community. Based upon Halo Nation, "Grifball" is where a player from a team has to get a bomb from their base to the enemy base. Each player are given an infinite supply of "Gravity Hammers" and "Energy Blades" to defend team members and attack hostile players.
A new map is available in Halo 4: The remains of 'Exile.' There were survivors of the violent crash of UNSC Diadochi. Instead of dying out in who knows where, the survivors were able to scavenge resources from the Diadochi's remains and even make shelters from the debri. Several years later a rescue team found a healthy, burgeoning community thriving within the ship's remains. So why not make this into an all out battleground for online War Games? I'm sure the survivors' next generation are happy knowing their home of caves and society will be used for fast-paced vehicle combat and frantic, on-foot action.
Halo 4 is an exclusive game to the Xbox 360. It will be available November 6, 2012.
