In the end Jetpack Joyride is a very good mobile game and is on par with the other games of it's kind.
Jetpack Joyride Community Page
The overall concept of Jetpack Joyride is the same as many mobile games available nowadays.
You basically fly through the level tapping and holding the screen to stay in the air whilst dodging obstacles and collecting coins. As far as game concepts go it’s not exactly a huge innovation, however it is executed well.
The controls are responsive and easy to use, it’s always easy to tell how high each of your touches will send Barry, the guy flying the jetpack.
Gameplay
The obstacles Barry faces are a little limited in comparison to other games of a similar nature. Throughout my play sessions of Jetpack Joyride I only faced lightning beams, lasers and missiles. Now I know that sounds like a bit of an understatement, but in comparison to the many interesting and fun obstacles you face in Temple Run 2, Jetpack joyride is a bit lacking.
In Temple Run 2 you go from jumping and ducking under fire, spiked wheels and tree logs, to riding a mine cart and rafting down a river, whereas in Jetpack Joyride you face a grand total of 3 obstacles.
Overall Jetpack Joyride is a very solid entry in the mobile games market.
I have to admit though the power ups in Jetpack Joyride are a lot more creative and fun than it’s competitors. For example one of the power ups involves flying a robotic dragon, how cool is that?
Lifespan
Jetpack Joyride has a decent lifespan. The ‘one more go’ style of gameplay is without at doubt present here, with the game being just challenging enough that it’s not too easy and difficult enough that you want to keep going when you die. The aforementioned obstacles mean the game does get a bit stale after a while but the fun power ups definitely add some freshness. Did I mention there’s a robotic dragon? Overall Jetpack Joyride has a good lifespan but does get old after a while.
Level of Freeness
Jetpack Joyride is another example of a game that does in game currency correctly. The main currency in the game are the coins you collect while playing. The things you can buy with these coins include, cosmetic upgrades and gadgets and they don’t really change the game much which is good. It means as a player you don’t need or feel like you need to buy them but there is still point to buy them. It’s a very good balance and overall super well done.
