The Electronic Sports League are delighted to announce the implementation of the VERSUS matchmaking system to the award winning game Blacklight Retribution. This addition to the popular game will come about through the combined efforts of Perfect World Entertainment and Zombie Studios, who are the publisher and developer of Blacklight Retribution respectively. All 3 companies will also be working in tandem with Turtle Entertainment, who are the host of an eSports platform that reaches over 4 million players.

The new VERSUS system is intended to make it easy to get into competitive gaming, as players can effortlessly match themselves with others of equal skill by simply clicking a button. With the new system in place, every kill will be tracked by the game, creating more balanced matches. Under the new system, the PvP experience of Blacklight Retribution is planned to be fun for skilled players as well as beginners.

David Hiltscher, Vice President of Gaming Communities at Turtle Entertainment, feels that the new ranking system makes games far more exciting. He commented that games at are at their best when they create a sense of a “meaningful outcome”, and he feels that VERSUS means you can “make each [match] count.

Jared Gerritzen, Creative Studio Head for Zombie Studios, is “thrilled to be working with Turtle Entertainment in bringing the [Electronic Sports League] into Blacklight Retribution”. He reflects that Zombie Studios set out to make Blacklight Retribution the “best F2P FPS possible” and by adding the game to the Electronic Sports League, he feels that this goal can be achieved. In order to fully support the Electronic Sports League, Zombie Studios have changed major mechanics in the game, including gunplay. These changes have been made in order to turn Blacklight Retribution into the “best competitive multiplayer F2P game available.”

Einfo Games said in their Blacklight Retribution Review “If they keep on track with supporting the community with extra content and patches to sort out the rendering and lag problems within matches then we may all be in for a summer free-to-play treat that could also end up lasting for years to come.”
